L. K.: Sylvie, while I agree with you about Oprah, you can't discount all of the books she has promoted. This is a lovely memoir written honestly with great courage.
Oprah is exploitive, self-absorbed, disingenuous, and over-rated. Some of the work she does makes the world a better place. I was horrified with Obama gave her a national award.

She was exploited as a child and now she has reenacted her childhood drama on the stage of the world by exploiting the whole world under the disguise of help. I don’t doubt this is a lovely memoir and written with courage, but the author must have fallen into the same illusions or traps that Oprah has fallen into that promise healing and salvation, but actually perpetuates our blindness, reinforces our repression and the fears of resolving it, if the author had become close to shattering Oprah’s illusions, she would not be promoting their book. Some of Oprah’s work all it does is a bandage, a temporary and superficially fix that blinds the public and reinforces the public’s repression that the future generation will have to pay the price for it. “I constantly witness many people going public with their sad, tragic stories in an effort to manipulate people into feeling sorry for them and feeding their adult compulsions and perversions. They don’t want the truth. They only wish to avoid their own pain. These people are exploiting the wounded children they once were, just like their parents or parent-substitutes exploited them when they were defenseless little children. Remember the book A Million Little Pieces by James Frey that was selling the same illusions Oprah also sales, but his story was not even based on real events and facts. Oprah only promotes authors selling the same old recycled illusions. When that book came out I was going through the channels and saw him on Oprah, I listen to him for a little bit and I could tell he was full of BS. If Oprah really had resolved her own repression, she too would have been able to see that he was full of BS. Oprah is passing to the world her psychological virus and the abuse she received in her childhood, but she is passing it in a converted way and under the disguise of help. All Oprah has done  in her life was to reverse the roles, now she is the all-powerful, just like her abusers were to her, she could not have confronted her abusers when she was little and now no one will be able to confront her either, because she has too much power. What is very sad is that her and people like her make a lots of money deceiving themselves and the whole world. It makes me sick to my stomach.


L.K.: I think Oprah's ego has much more to do with her faults than childhood abuse. The support of problematic influencers is required in most fields. Oprah is not someone mentioned on C's Facebook page. She was at a film festival. You are making too much of one photo.

If the author had become close to shattering Oprah's and society's illusions, her book would never have been in Oprah’s book club, period. Oprah wants to keep her illusions and repression intact and for that, she needs to keep the public blind and will never promote a book that will truly enlighten the public.


L.K.: I don't think it's that complicated. Sometimes people act with little insight. She's more cluelessly and selfishly exploitive not excluding good things for people.


G.B.: It's so much simpler than that L. Oprah is a businesswoman who sells what people buy.


L. K.: That's true, but she puts peoples needs after her own ambition. She did an interview with a famous author who chose to marry a gay man that was so hurtful, the author whose name I can't remember talking about it on an NPR program. She infamously insisted on doing an interview with Jacee Duggard despite JD's objections. Sylvie, W had helped a lot of people and is a great work. Oprah might read the New York Times. It still stands alone. Isn't it possible that Oprah got it right? Not all of her books were poorly chosen.
Truthfully, I'm not crazy about some of Toni Morrison's work and she will always be revered. Traditionally thinking did not allow Toni to base her analysis on reason.

Cult leaders have mastered the art of manipulation, so they can keep their own repressions intact and manage their own fears. The Charlatan John of God and Oprah the Master Puppeteer

Since reading the letter of one of the John of God's accusers, I can't rid myself of the itch to write another blog about it.

I have written in past blogs that charlatans promote each other, and Oprah is one of the biggest charlatans out there, using her big platform to promote charlatans.

Only emotionally blind people fall for this crap. It's so sad. It's amazing how society gives Oprah a free pass and doesn't call her on being a charlatan promoting other charlatans.

In the dictionary next to the word "manipulation" should be the picture of Oprah because without a doubt, she has mastered the art of "manipulation" to "perfection".

The words below the accuser of John of God wrote before she killed herself, are very true. Sadly, she never developed two healthy legs to stand alone -- on her own two feet.

"John of God, Prem Baba, Gê Marques, Ananda Joy, Edir Macedo, Marcos Feliciano, DeRose Father, DeRose son, all priests, pastors, bishops, spiritists, Hindus, Umbellists, Mormons, Baptists, Methodists, Jews, Muslims, Sufis, Taoists, my family, Marcelo Gayger, Jorge Berenguer, I do not know about their childhood and how they were raised in this world, but I know in my heart that EVERY BOY WAS BORN PURE and was abused, corrupted, bruised, castrated, forced to do things that he did not want to do, until they became, in their own way, manipulating tyrants (to a greater or lesser extent) who, by not controlling their own impulses, try to control who they consider being smore fragile and thus commit rape, pedophilia, various addictions ... I know, I feel, I have seen." 

I like her too, I know, feel, and see. She wrote her letter in Portuguese, and I translated the words above with the help of Google Translate

One of the residents in the community where I worked for nine and a half years, in 2013, she had foot surgery, and after work around 3pm, I stopped at her house to help her. She was watching the Oprah show promoting John of God and she too traveled to Brazil to see him. Seeing this resident fall for this crap. I just wanted to throw up...  
Charlatans are so Annoying, they keep themselves and everyone else in an endless vicious circle. 

Oprah Winfrey: This is when my ‘job ended’ and my ‘calling began.’ Her calling was to become a cult leader and a cult leader promoter! The cult business is very profitable!

Oprah’s Record of Promoting Charlatans Should Perhaps Give Us Pause About Her Impending Presidency

Glad to see that are others out there able to see that Oprah is a charlatan promotor.

Charlatans promote other charlatans! They all help each other and kiss each other's butts. They all help sell each other's very well articulated seductive lies and illusions. The bigger the illusion they create the more money they make off the emotional blind society! And the more powerful they become! They go to any lengths to protect their lies and illusions making sure the truth doesn't get out and, if they can, they will kill or destroy anyone they fear might expose them for the fraud that they are.

Just like I wrote in my response to G: "G., Oprah is a cult leader that promotes other cult leaders, period. The Mask of the Healer: From the Epstein Files to the Prestigious Doctor Down the Hall

The recent release of the Epstein files has done what the justice system, for too long, could not: it has begun to pull back the curtain on a world of carefully constructed illusions. We are seeing the names of wealthy and influential men—doctors, scientists, businessmen—who orbited a convicted sex offender, exposed in black and white. Men like Peter Attia, the famed longevity doctor who joked with Epstein and lamented he couldn't tell a soul about their "outrageous" friendship. Men like Leon Black and Glenn Dubin, who continued to associate with him and, in some cases, welcomed him into their homes with their children present.

The files are a testament to a simple, brutal truth: the truth always comes to the light, sooner or later, in one form or another.

As I read these names—including the long list of doctors from Mount Sinai and other prestigious institutions who provided "VIP" services to Epstein—I am not surprised. I am, however, filled with a familiar, heavy feeling. It’s the same feeling I had in 2013, watching a resident from the community where I worked fall for the illusions of another charlatan promoted by Oprah Winfrey: the Brazilian "faith healer" John of God, who was later exposed and arrested.

We live in a world of puppets and puppeteers. And some of the most dangerous puppeteers are not the ones we fear, but the ones we are taught to trust. They are the "helpers" who, behind closed doors, create the chaos, only to later appear as the heroes. As I wrote to a corrupt former employer the day I resigned:

"A lot of the time, the 'helpers' who covertly, behind closed doors, create the chaos later appear to be the heroes and nice people. The most dangerous terrorists are in boardrooms. We live in a world where some very smart people have become master manipulators at creating big illusions to fool the emotionally blind public."

A Story Closer to Home

This brings me to my own story. While the world watches the downfall of Epstein’s associates, I think about the "prestigious psychiatric Dr. Julio Machado Vaz" in my country of birth, Portugal. I wonder when his mask will be ripped away.

I was 17 years old when he sexually abused me. He was a young, 27-year-old doctor. Back then, he was building a reputation, a career on the foundation of trust that his white coat and title afforded him. I have no doubt that during his long lifetime as a doctor, he abused many other vulnerable teenagers like me. He was, in his own way, a Portuguese equivalent to these men we are now seeing in the headlines—protected by his status, his connections, and the public's emotional blindness.

It may be that my story will only get the attention it deserves after I am dead. It may be that he will only be exposed after he is gone, too. But I have no doubt that it will happen. Because, as we are seeing now, the truth is patient. It waits. And eventually, it finds a way through the cracks in the illusion.

The Profitable Business of Illusion

The Epstein files show us that the "cult business" is very profitable, whether it’s the cult of personality around a financier, a TV host, or an author. We see it in the recent charges against acclaimed Australian children's author Craig Silvey, accused of child exploitation offenses. Another person in a position of trust, another illusion shattered for the families involved.

Oprah Winfrey famously said that her "job ended" and her "calling began." I would argue her calling became that of a master puppeteer, promoting cult leaders like John of God and cashing in on society’s desperate need for easy answers and charismatic figures. She is not alone. The boardrooms are filled with these "smart people" who have become experts at creating big illusions.

No Escape from Destiny

To those who continue to protect the prestigious psychiatric Dr. Julio Machado Vaz in Portugal, and to all the enablers who look the other way, I offer the same words I left with my former employer:

"Good luck to you all, too, but have in mind everyone will meet their own destiny sooner or later in one form or another -- there's no escape... When all your illusions burst, I'm glad I will not be around because it will not be pretty. Most importantly, I wish you all courage and strength to get through it when all your illusions burst."

The Epstein files are just one more chapter in humanity's long, slow reckoning with its hidden darkness. They prove that no amount of prestige, money, or carefully managed public image can shield a person from their own destiny. The truth is coming for them all. And one day, it will come for him, too.
